Permaculture Activities

Gardening is a wonderful opportunity to teach kids:

  • where their food comes from
  • about the health benefits vegetable and fruits can give you
  •  to care for things
  • the types of animals in the garden
  • the types of soils
  • the use of different tools in the garden
  • that plants grow
  • about flowers and fruiting
  • requirements for life
  • how to have fun in the outdoors
  • to be interested in the natural environments around them
Activities:

Grow your own vegetables from seeds

You can grow plant from tomato seeds, avocado seeds, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, basil seeds, dill seeds. The limit is your imagination and your climate!

I have successfully grown tomato seeds in Malaysia. To do this I got some potting mix and squirted the seeds into the soil. I kept the soil moist and within a week the seeds had germinated. I then separated  the seedlings and planted them into a bigger pot. Below are some pictures!

Reusing containers for pots

I was sick of buying pots so I have decided to see what will happen if I use some milk containers and yogurt containers as pots. I have added draining holes in the bottom and opened the top . I have been careful with the number of seeds that I have added as I don't want to have overcrowding.  Below are some pictures. The milk containers are 2 L ones and the yogurt is a kg container.
